Dr. George Rekers has been a faculty member at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine since 1985. Before joining the Department of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science, he taught on the faculties of Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas; the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, Florida; and the University of California, Los Angeles. He also served as Head of the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Kansas State University, and Chief Psychologist, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
A graduate of Westmont College, Santa Barbara, California, Dr. Rekers earned a master of arts, a candidate in philosophy degree, and a doctorate in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed postdoctoral internship training in clinical psychology at Tufts University School of Medicine/New England Medical Center Hospital and Boston Veterans Administration Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. He served a clinical psychology fellowship at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
A licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Rekers is board certified as a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Psychology. In addition to a general clinical psychology practice of psychosocial testing and psychotherapy, he has special interests in family therapy and psychological consultation in business settings.
